forever in our hearts..

An old friend of mine was killed over the weekend. Crazy eh... no wait a minute. Let me try that again. An old friend of mine was killed over the weekend. No... wait. It still doesn't seem real. It's been 4 days and I am still waiting to hear that it was a mistake... no no no, we made a mistake. Paul's right here.... What do you say when something so inexplicable happens... is anyone else waiting to hear it was a really bad joke? Stuff like this just doesn't happen right??

Although I haven't seen Paul in a few years I have known him and his wonderful family since I was a small child. I know that everytime our paths would cross it would only be as if we last saw each other just the other day... and after catching up it would be hugs goodbye, "good to see you" and "take care". I remember the last time he was at my house like it was yesterday, for a few beers on the couch with some friends. I remember how impressed I was with his rottweiler Cash, and how he had that dog trained to obey only the sound of his voice. I will always remember the kindness in his voice. I will always remember his politeness... his gentleness... his sense of humour. I remember the days before he became the harmonica sensation he was.... no, that he is. That he will always be. I remember him carrying it around without ever realizing what it would become... what he would become, an icon in the Montreal hip hop scene and abroad.

I haven't seen Paul in years but over the past few days I have seen and continue to see how he has touched the many, many, many lives of people all over the world... and although he was taken from us too early his legacy will live on forever. I have seen a tribute to him on facebook grow from a few dozen fans to over 2000 and counting overnight. I have seen thousands of people voice their sorrow... friends & fans alike, from Montreal to France to Holland to god only knows where else. He touched so many people not only as a friend but with his music... those who never had the joy of knowing him are feeling the loss along with those of us who did.

Much love to Paul's family and to all who have been touched by him whether as a friend, a musician, a roll model, an inspiration. Some are saying good-bye to Paul Frappier, others to Bad News Brown. But we are all suffering this loss together and must support one another to celebrate his life and the wonderful things he has accomplished. He has left us with some very special gifts... of memories, love & music. He will forever live on in our hearts.

Paul Frappier AKA Bad News Brown 1977-2011
